Juicing Benefits

Nutritional experts tell us that we are not getting our daily recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables.  To fill this void, clever marketers in the food industry developed such products as V8 and their new hybrid drinks with fruits and vegetables combined.  Such products have proved very popular with people who are concerned about improving their health.  They offer a convenient way to add all the essential fruits and vegetables when you know you aren’t getting enough of them.

But you should think twice about them because they typically include unhealthy preservatives to help them maintain “freshness” during the many months that they sit in warehouses, on trucks in transit and eventually on store shelves before you buy them.  These preservatives may even cause cancer, weight gain, allergies and a whole host of subtle health problems.  Why spend your hard earned cash on such unhealthy products when you can make your own juice at home, tailored to your personal tastes?

Nearly everyone knows the health benefits of eating their fruits and vegetables.  These power foods come packed with many essential vitamins and minerals which help keep our immune system strong so we stay healthy.  There is even new research that shows how powerful they are in preventing and curing disease.

There are some juices that are well-known for their ability to help us.  Most people know that cranberry juice can help prevent kidney stones and fight a bladder infection, but fewer people know that cabbage juice can help with peptic ulcer or that keracyanin, the red pigment in cherries is good for gout.  Citrus juices are commonly used to help stave off colds.

And there has been a lot of buzz lately about the healing power of grape juice which contains, trans-resveratrol, which is believed to help reduce the risk of atherosclerosis.  Drinking at least three glasses of grape juice a day can prevent heart attacks just as effectively as taking an aspirin on a daily basis.  But what few people know is that the pit of the grape contains powerful antioxidants called proanthocyanidins, which are thought to be even more potent antioxidants than vitamin C or vitamin E.  Juicing grapes is a great way to get all these healthy benefits because when you juice grapes, you put them into the juicer with their seeds!

Now – you may be tempted to just buy bottled juices, but the fact is that bottled juices simply do not give you all the health benefits that juicing fresh fruits and vegetables do.  Why?  One reason is that many packaged juices are made from fruit concentrates rather than from whole fruit juice.  Additionally, they are often pasteurized before they can be sold and the heat from the pasteurizing process (boiling for example) destroys the natural enzymes, vitamins and minerals so they lose a lot of nutritional value.

With the right preparation and the right juicer you can get all the nutrition you need from your fruits and vegetables quickly and easily.  You’ll be surprised at how much better you’ll feel when you are properly nourished.  Juicing will get you feeling better and boost your vitality in ways you never expected.  You may even find you need to take fewer vitamins and supplements so you’ll save money too!
